Logan, the latest movie of the X-Men origins series, is set somewhere in the future, wherein our hero lives with Caliban near the border of Mexico, and looks after Professor Charles Xavier. With his powers now abating, Logan looks weary and weather-beaten. Now he can’t heal himself, and looks like growing old, as does Charles. His claws held between his knuckles and have lost their well-recognized snikt-snikt responsiveness. This tired version of Wolverine, dying physically as well as mentally as all the mutants such as him are pushed into desert hideouts by the world that is targeting them. Logan movie review

Other than Logan, there are two more familiar mutants Caliban (Merchant), an Albino who can trace people, and Charles Xavier (Stewart) who can control the mind, are the part of the film. Logan is now working as a driver to earn an adequate sum of money to afford medicines to keep the other two, who can’t leave their shelter, going. Charles is held hidden in an upturned, hollow water tank — a brutal setting indicative of the cruel end to which the mutants have been forced. Logan movie review
But then into the dying world of Logan, Charles and Caliban, comes falling in Laura. She is a new mutant when Logan thought none more were possible or would be allowed. Plus, the girl has powers just like him, of claws implanted in her knuckles and also in her feet. Logan movie review

The trio — Logan, Charles, and Laura — hit the road to avoid Donald Pierce and Dr. Zander Rice, and reach a safe haven in North Dakota where Laura can reassemble with other mutants from Transigen. They fight and argue along the way, presenting an appearance of a respectful relationship that each of them has been refuted. Laura becomes the curiously quiet, wide-eyed granddaughter to Professor X’s. Logan, not different its forerunner, The Wolverine (2013), directs towards existential thoughts. The Wolverine saw its protagonist getting contaminated and thus losing his powers to heal himself. It sat a grave question for a superhero whose appeal in the Marvel universe holds on his immortality and hell-bent snap, but there are a heated aggressiveness and pain underneath, and separation, for having outlasted almost everyone he ever cared for. In the year 2029, there are very few natural mutants left. Afterward, the events of X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), the mutants have become forces of modern culture, earning money through comic books and toys. Laura is a fan of X-Men comic book in which the coordinates of her “Eden” in North Dakota are defined, leading Logan to sweep it aside as myth-making.

In the movie, our trio enjoys a good meal with a family whom they helped on their way to North-Dakota, and for the first time in years, they get to sleep in good comfy beds. It is the time of ultimate happiness — of moksha — for Professor X, shrewdly portrayed by Patrick Stewart in his last trip as this character. This R-rated movie surely please the fans of Wolverine. Logan movie review
