Story of Movie
The movie revolves around the life of Sandeep Singh, a grievously injured hockey player who makes a comeback against all odds. Sandeep Singh’s character is portrayed by Diljit Dosanjh. Sandeep Singh was born in the hockey capital of India, Shahabad where every boy or girl had a dream to play hockey for team India. A young Sandeep is also one of them but his dedication soon wears off due to his unreasonably unsympathetic coach. He love for hockey takes a step back, until he falls for another hockey player Harpreet which is played by Taapsee Pannu . She reignites his passion for the game and this hockey becomes a purpose of his life. Sandeep’s shocking train incident leads him into paralysis and thus his journey begins to fight that setback. Sandeep Singh’s character sets an example for all those young hockey players when he learns the importance of wearing Indian colours and playing for the country makes this movie more special. Soorma movie review
The first half of the movie is kept light with small town moments and some harmless musings between Sandeep and Harpreet. He is seen as a regular guy supporting his older brother who is also a hockey player (Angad Bedi). It is basically spent in making of “Flicker Singh”. The second half of the movie is like a rollercoaster of emotions as Sandeep gets shot below waist and is paralyzed. Harpreet like every other woman would do, stood by him to make him stand back on his feet but her strong presence makes him weak. Thus, she abandons him. Sandeep rises like a phoenix from the ashes after a year of therapy. He realizes his true passion for Hockey and plays the last match for India not Harpreet. Soorma movie review
An overview on Dailjit’s Performance
Diljit is obviously the hero of the movie and his presence is felt. Being not a sportsperson himself, his hockey skills comes across and subtlety of the character earnestly and effortlessly. We might just say that it’s an honest attempt by the singer-actor to portray a legend onscreen. Being a sardar himself, he fits perfectly for Sandeep’s role and is natural onscreen. He excels in both emotional and comic scenes like a pro. Soorma movie review
Taapsee Is Quite Impressive
Taapsee Pannu is impressive as Harpreet. But her track slackens the pace of the film. The chemistry between Diljit and Taapsee is so organic and fresh. Special mention to Vijay Raaz as Sandeep’s coach is crowd please. He brings the house down with his dialogues and the way he delivers those quirky lines. Soorma movie review
Angad Bedi is endearing as the protective and caring elder brother and so is Satish Kaushik. The two best scenes in Soorma, belong to these two. Angad’s when he is looking at Sandeep aka Diljit’s legs. He said so much without saying. Diljit told to a renowned newspaper that Soorma would be Angad’s best performance till date and he was right. The sequence when two brothers play opposite each other is a treat to watch. The second is of Satish Kaushik who plays Sandeep’s father; when he is mumbling to himself. Soorma movie review
Why Should You Watch Soorma
People have known Sandeep’s story before but the eye-gripping screenplay by Shaad Ali, Suyash Trivedi and Siva Ananth’s makes you believe that Sandeep will never be able to play hockey again. They have tactfully amalgamates drama, emotion in the movie. Shaad Ali has not tried to paint Diljit as a hero but a normal Sikh guy who is agreeing to his lady love’s brother’s conditions. He is someone who goes onto make his nation proud with his exceptional game. Soorma movie review
